☆CHARACTER
Character Name: Persephone, formerly Laura Wilson
Age: 17
Species: Human/Deity
Canon: The Wicked + The Divine
Canon Point: Before her performance in issue 18
Character Info: Wiki pages for Laura & Persephone

Personality: Before she became a god, Laura Wilson was just a girl desperate to be something special. From the moment she learned about the Recurrence where gods were reborn into the world and then died two years later, she knew she wanted that. She quit going to school, going all in on the prospect of becoming something important even if it meant gaining an expiration date that wouldn't allow to see her 20th birthday. That's the sort of person she was, she needed a purpose and once she found it she was willing to throw herself into it with all of her heart. She doesn't do anything by half measures.

Laura was also very clever when she had her eye on the goal. She was a good liar, able to game Luci's lawyers by dropping the right names in order to get access to her in prison. She had either the confidence or impulsiveness to jump into dangerous confrontations and try to defuse them before anyone else got hurt. Whether it was bullshitting up some Shakespeare to keep Morrigan and Baphomet from ripping each other to pieces or making a deal with the former in order to get Luci into the underground. Another point toward her impulsiveness is that in order to gain the favor from Morrigan she had to jump down onto the train tracks and nearly get turned into a smear in order to get the threefold goddess's attention.

Another aspect of Laura is how confrontational she can be about her faith in the pantheon. For her, each performance she attended simply cemented what she already knew: they were all special, all obviously divine. When she meets unbelievers she gets angry and picks fights because she can't understand how they can be blind to what is so clearly in front of them. This dislike doesn't keep her from taking advantage of the resources Cassandra has available to her but they also never became besties either. She's also able to set aside that dislike of Cassandra as well as her own envy when the other woman is revealed to be Urdr, the last member of the Pantheon, and comfort her in a moment of despair.

Her failures drive her to try and do better, to chase down the things she doesn't understand if only to give herself peace of mind. After she watched Luci get murdered right before her eyes, Laura was haunted by it. She kept on trying to find the person who framed the devil long after the rest of the world gave up, kept chasing the mystery because at least it gave her something to do. She's aware of her flaws as well, admitting to herself that if she'd been called on by Baal to sell out Cassandra then she would have done it in an instant. She was young and rebellious and would fight with her parents over her reckless behavior even while knowing she's in the wrong and picking a fight for all the wrong reasons. Even though her family never really understood her obsession with the Recurrence, Laura cared about them. There was still a barrier where she didn't feel comfortable revealing all her secrets to them but the desire to do it is there in many of their interactions.

An important thing to note is that she loved the gods. She was a huge fangirl for all of them, went to all their shows and hung their pictures on her walls. When she saw herself cut off from the dream she held onto for years she came back from that heartbreak with a resolve to try and help make the gods of the Pantheon happy for the short time they had. She was upset but willing to find a new path.

And then, suddenly, she was given the exact thing she wanted. She became Persephone. For a short moment, Persephone was the happiest she ever was. Then Ananke tried to take it away by killing her off for reasons unknown. Collateral damage for this attack included Laura's family. Turns out that murder doesn't make for a happy young god.

So now you have Persephone. An angry goddess with a grudge against the woman who tried to kill her and the will to break everything in order to get to that goal. She's confident in her abilities and has a bone to pick with the world. She's everything Laura was but an icy veneer over all the warmer parts of her. She tells people that Laura Wilson is dead, that Persephone is the one who survived because otherwise everything she lost to become divine would be too much. She's confident in a way that all about determination to bring the world down one brick at a time. As a god she has a drive to be seen by people even as she uses her appearance to further her agenda. In the words of Lucifer “It doesn't matter if I can't perform” and true to that, Persephone's opening volley at Ananke came in the form of a concert to let the world know that there was another god out there.

As a god, Persephone isn't a completely heartless, just more ruthless in how she works. When her performance draws conflict from Ananke and the gods of the Pantheon, she does her best to protect the bystanders from being collateral damage. That concern for the people around her is still there but she's willing to take risks in order to draw her enemies out. That care for others is still a strong part of her even as a god, going to show that while she insists that Laura Wilson died she's still there deep down beneath it all.

☆INTERSTELLAR
Chosen Powers:

Magic Vines – Activated by a count of 1-2-3-4 and a snap of her fingers, Persephone can summon glowing vines that can act as either a weapon or a shield depending on her intentions at the time. (30 mp)

Godly Song - Persephone, like all the gods of the pantheon, can channel her power through song to influence the people around her. In canon this has caused a strong emotional reaction in the people listening bringing them to tears and making some of them even collapse. Example (30 MP)

Chosen Equipment:
Relevant Skills: Persephone is a god with a pretty good grip on her powers that gives her an edge in combat against stronger-than-human opponents. Her magic vines can break through concrete and block attacks. All handy things to have when you're up against sinister alien
Character Goals: It seems like some things are destined to repeat themselves. Laura worked to try and prove Lucifer innocent to get her out of jail. When that didn't work out, she tried to save her from being killed. That didn't work out either. Now Persephone is determined to rescue Luci and bring her home as a first step toward taking down their mutual enemy. Hopefully this attempt ends with fewer heads exploding.
